HVK Stevens is pleased to announce that it expands its Netherlands tax advisory practice and has welcomed international tax expert Paulus Merks as a new partner to the firm as of January 1. Paulus has extensive experience in international tax law. He previously worked as a tax lawyer in Amsterdam, New York, Paris, Chicago and San Jose (California).
In addition to the bolstering of HVK Stevens’ international tax practice, Paulus will further build and lead HVK Stevens’ transfer pricing practice both in the Netherlands and in Luxembourg.
Prof. Dr. Stan Stevens states in this regard: “I am very proud that we can welcome Paulus to the firm. Paulus and I worked together at the University of Amsterdam (Vrije Universiteit) for many years and have had a very good working relationship ever since. Paulus has in-depth knowledge of international tax law and an excellent network. We are convinced that Paulus will further build and grow our international tax practice at HVK Stevens.”
An expert in domestic and international tax law, Paulus Merks advises on M&A transactions, restructurings, reorganizations, public offerings, and transfer pricing. He also litigates disputes with tax authorities, as well as advising on general tax-law matters. Merks regularly advises US and other non-Dutch companies on how to best structure their worldwide operations and acquisitions.
Paulus is a member of the American Bar Association (ABA), the Dutch Association for Tax Research (Vereniging voor Belastingwetenschap), the International Fiscal Association (IFA), the International Bar Association (IBA) and the European American Tax Institute.
Paulus has degrees in Dutch tax law from the University of Amsterdam and in US tax law from the University of San Francisco.
