The shareholders of AFAS Software have made a special decision: they have donated 30% of their shares to two foundations that support charities worldwide. With this, the Mars and Van der Veldt families underline their value-driven vision of entrepreneurship. HVK Stevens had the pleasure of advising them on this impactful transaction.
Sustainable contribution to a better world
AFAS has had a strong focus on social impact for years, including through the AFAS Foundation. This step further anchors their commitment: The Pharus Foundation and the Contribute Foundation will receive a share in the company and receive a structural source of funding through dividend payments. This will ensure long-term support for projects in the areas of food supply, education, biodiversity and health care. Click here to read the full report on this donation.
New legislation limits this possibility starting in 2025
This donation could still be realized tax-free, but this will no longer be possible as of Jan. 1, 2025. Due to new cabinet measures, such a donation would result in a 31% tax levy from then on. This underlines the importance of timely strategic advice in realizing socially engaged entrepreneurship.
How can your company contribute?
Although legislation is changing, several opportunities remain for entrepreneurs and shareholders who wish to contribute to society in a responsible manner. HVK Stevens is happy to assist in finding appropriate structures and legal solutions to realize social impact, within the framework of the new tax legislation.
